A Peaceful Stop for Pilgrims
Nestled in the beautiful Adour Valley, Préchac-sur-Adour is a welcoming stop for hikers and pilgrims. The village lies along the GR®101 – Lourdes Way, which connects with the major pilgrimage routes leading to Santiago de Compostela.
Pilgrims traveling through the area come from Nogaro, continue through Termes-d’Armagnac, Tasque, and Galiax, before reaching Préchac-sur-Adour and then heading toward Maubourguet.
It is an ideal place to pause, rest, and recharge while enjoying the peaceful countryside and lush surroundings. The village lake, popular with local families and anglers, offers another tranquil spot to relax before continuing your journey.
The Church of Saint John the Baptist, a Historic Landmark
After arriving in Préchac-sur-Adour, take some time to visit our Church of Saint John the Baptist. This nearly thousand-year-old landmark has welcomed generations of pilgrims and bears witness to the rich history of our region.

🌾 The Mill of Préchac-sur-Adour
Standing along the banks of the Alaric Canal, the Cardayre Mill is one of the most iconic reminders of Préchac-sur-Adour’s rural heritage. Once powered by flowing water, the mill reflects the important role milling played in the daily lives of local residents.
For centuries, watermills were essential to rural life throughout Gascony. Farmers brought their wheat and corn to be ground into flour, a vital staple for local families and an important part of the village economy.
The Cardayre Mill also bears witness to the ingenuity of past generations, who harnessed the natural resources of the Adour River and the Alaric Canal to produce clean, renewable energy long before the industrial era.
Although the mill is no longer in operation today, it remains a remarkable feature of the Préchac-sur-Adour landscape. Surrounded by greenery, its picturesque setting invites visitors to enjoy a peaceful walk and serves as a reminder of the deep connection between the village and its waterways—a relationship that has endured for centuries.
Lake Préchac-sur-Adour

Just a few steps from our church, stroll along the shores of this beautiful lake, discover its charming little waterfall, and watch the wild ducks that make their home here.
The Historic Washhouse
Located in the heart of the village, the historic washhouse of Préchac-sur-Adour offers a fascinating glimpse into everyday life in times past. For generations, local residents gathered here not only to wash their laundry, but also to share village news, exchange stories, and strengthen community ties.
Like many public washhouses built in France during the 19th century, it was created in response to growing concerns about public health and provided families with a shared space supplied by clean, flowing water.
Today, carefully restored and preserved, the washhouse is an integral part of the village’s heritage. It recalls a time when water played a central role in the daily life of Préchac-sur-Adour, alongside the Adour River, the Alaric Canal, and the Cardayre Mill.
A stop at the washhouse offers visitors a more intimate glimpse into the village’s history—and a chance to imagine the lively conversations and everyday encounters that once filled this special gathering place.

Discover the Adour Trail and Its Hidden Treasures
The Adour Trail invites you to explore our countryside in greater depth. This scenic route follows the Alaric Canal before reaching the Adour River, revealing an unspoiled valley dotted with canals, historic mills, washhouses, and beautiful natural areas.
Accessible on foot, by bicycle, or on horseback, the trail offers a wonderful way to experience the natural and cultural richness of our region.
Starting from the church, a pleasant walk leads you to the Alaric Canal, the village lake, and the historic Cardayre Mill, before continuing toward the beautiful landscapes along the Adour River.
Peaceful and surrounded by nature, the area is also ideal for fishing and makes a wonderful destination for families, seniors, school groups, and children’s activity groups.
🌿 A 2-Kilometer Walk Along the Water
Begin your visit at the Church of Saint John the Baptist, a jewel of Romanesque architecture that has stood watch over the village for nearly a thousand years.
Just a few steps away, discover the Cardayre Mill, recently restored and a remarkable reminder of Préchac-sur-Adour’s rich water-powered heritage. Horse lovers will also notice a beautiful equestrian stable near the mill (private property).
Continue your walk along the peaceful banks of the Alaric Canal. Following the water, you will reach Lake Préchac-sur-Adour, a tranquil haven where wild ducks and other waterfowl provide a delightful sight for visitors.
Cross the bridge into the heart of the village and take time to admire the beautiful historic homes, carefully restored and full of the charm and authenticity of Préchac-sur-Adour. A separate map is available to help you discover some of our village’s most remarkable historic buildings.
After passing the Town Hall, the heart of village life, cross the road to reach Centradour, with its campground, tennis courts, and pétanque courts.
Stop for a moment at the historic washhouse, once an important gathering place for village residents, where conversations and laughter would have filled the air. About 100 meters farther along the road toward Castelnau-Rivière-Basse, you can admire the Château de Préchac (private property, not open to visitors).
Finally, if you would like to continue exploring, follow the Adour Trail. This peaceful riverside path leads toward the neighboring village of Jû-Belloc, through beautiful, unspoiled countryside—an ideal setting to relax and observe the local wildlife.
